Speak Clearly (Part 3 Pronunciation Challenge)
Part 3: Pronunciation — Listening VIP Training 🎤
Welcome to the pronunciation lesson. This is my Listening VIP Training.
VIP stands for:
- Vocabulary
- Intonation
- Pronunciation
This is one of the most important — and most popular — activities in the course.
How the lesson works
First, you can watch a short modeling video.
I do the activity myself so you can:
- Hear the pronunciation first
- Hear the rhythm and intonation
- Get extra listening practice
This video is short (about 4 minutes).
If you want, you can skip the video and start the activity right away.
No reading first 🚫📖
In this activity, you cannot see the text at first.
This is very important.
Why? Because reading is cheating.
If you read first and then speak, you may:
- Say the word incorrectly
- Build bad pronunciation habits
- Keep repeating the same mistake
This is called fossilization — and we want to avoid it.
So the rule is:
- Listen first
- Say it from memory
- Check the text only if you need help
What you do in the activity
- Listen to one sentence
- Repeat it (shadowing)
- Record your voice
- Get a pronunciation score
This is not “talking into the void.”
You get feedback every time.
You can:
- Say it naturally
- Use reduced sounds
- Use chunking and pauses
If it sounds natural, you can still get a high score.
About scores
Very important:
- You do not need 100%
- 80–90% is totally fine
- If it’s always 100%, it’s probably too easy
This is training, not a test.
Pronunciation takes time.
The goal is awareness and improvement, not perfection.
Why this activity works
- You hear the language first
- You copy real pronunciation
- You train your ear and your mouth together
This is how you learned your first language.
This is the #1 favorite activity of my students — and the one I use most in class.
Relax. Have fun.
Train your listening, and your pronunciation will follow 🎧✨
